Ok. Now been at my new job for 2 weeks and its going great.

It was a bit of a shaky start. When I went for the interview they said I would be on 25 days holiday.

Bargin thought I.

Only when I got my contract did I notice it said, Bank/public holidays are to be taken from my 25 days.

I checked with Allison who confirmed this was perfectly legal and it was because it is a small company and they cannot afford to pay us an extra 7 days holiday each.

Bollocks.

And to make matters even worse, because I have only just started I haven't built up enough days for Christmas holidays (the period between Christmas and New Years is compulsory holiday) so I owe them 3 days from next years quota.

So....25 - 7 = 18

Christmas 2004 = 6

Christmas 2003 = 3

That leaves me with 9 days to take when I want/need. That kind of stuffs up Roop and myself having a holiday next year.

I have NEVER worked anywhere where you don’t get bank/public holidays on top of your normal entitlement. That means I am quite a few days down on Roop. I can take them unpaid which I might do on the odd occasion but I cannot afford to take 7 days unpaid.

But I did find out they have started me on £3 per hour than the other new starter so I can't complain....too much anyways.

This job is going to be good for me, I have managed 2 weeks without being ill, which is something I haven't managed all year yet. It is going to give me another skill for my CV and will increase my future prospects.

If only we got more paid holidays. I do like my luxuries.
